Chen has written and produced songs for Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Bella Thorne, Zendaya, Ross Lynch (R5), Bridgit Mendler, Dove Camron, China Anne McClain, Joe Jonas, Shane Filan (Westlife), Sabrina Carpenter, Hayley Orrantia, David Archuleta, and even The Muppets.
He has worked on four #1 albums on the Billboard 200 (most recently the song ‘Good Is The New Bad’ on The Descendants Soundtrack), and 11 top ten Billboard 200 albums. His songs have charted on the U.S. Hot 100, as well as on charts all over the world.
Chen’s songs have sold close to 15 million records worldwide, and can be heard on radio, film, TV, and in video games, consumer products and sports arenas.
Chen got his start as a studio musician and educator in Los Angeles. Through his studio work he got the opportunity to write for the extremely successful Disney franchise, Hannah Montana. He co-wrote the song “Rockstar” on the #1 record Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus. The song was used as the first promotional single from the movie Miley Cyrus Best Of Both Worlds Tour. This led to more work with Disney and its many successful properties. Chen co-wrote and co-produced the theme songs to such shows as Good Luck Charlie, Sonny With A Chance, Shake It Up, and Crash & Bernstein. He worked on Camp Rock 2, The Teen Beach franchise, Austin & Ally, Starstruck, Lemonade Mouth, Girl Vs Monster and many more. In 2011 Chen was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award for the song “Pictures In My Head” from The Muppets(2011).
Chen currently operates out of his Woodland Hills studio Red House Productions, where he writes, produces and develops new talent. He created and manages HitSongCoach.com, an education website dedicated to nurturing, guiding and empowering aspiring artist and writers through coaching in songwriting and production techniques.
